Dan Sweeney will be giving our February talk based on his book Farewell Grandeur: Lost Mansions and Houses of Southern Scotland, which was published in May of last year. This talk will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 19th February in the Anne Younger Studio of the Eastgate Theatre, Peebles. Free tickets are available from the Eastgate Box office (Tel. 01721 725777).
Whilst the fine houses of Mellerstain, Paxton, Traquair and Abbotsford are architectural treasures, many other similar buildings have been been lost. Dan chronicles 104 of these houses in his book and his Peebles Civic Society talk will discuss some of these and highlight what we have lost and their legacy across this beautiful part of Scotland.
Our final talk on Tuesday 18th March will reflect on the past two years of the Mills of Tweeddale Project. As with the launch event in March 2023 and last year's talk, it will be held in the Eastgate Theatre's main auditorium and free tickets can be obtained from the Eastgate Box Office (Tel. 01721 725777).
This project was funded by the Scottish Borders Council Neighbourhood Support Fund with additional contriutions from the Peebles Civic Society.
